Kinetic link Training is a systematic approach to strengthening functional movement. The KLT system promotes the time efficient development of strength and ease of movement in multiple planes of motion. KLT exercises and complete workouts are designed to encourage the development of a balanced and energised body.
Developed by Wayne Rodgers - Sports Physio, Kinetic Link training emphasises strengthening whole-body movements rather than individual muscles. This is achieved by performing a wide variety of integrated upper and lower body movements through a smooth, coordinated and controlled trunk.
This method of training ensures stability is developed proportionately, as required during the strengthening of the human body's natural movement patterns.
There is almost nothing we do in our day-to-day lives that requires a single muscle to work alone - so why should we train that way?!
- Strength and conditioning adage
The benches, racks and machines that facilitate most traditional training create specific training conditions (that don't often occur outside the gym!). Functional training exercises, like those in KLT, allows for development of the motor patterns associated with everyday life.
If you think of almost any high level athletic endeavour, it relies on more that force production. It is the ability to apply that force in a controlled, consistently repeatable manner that sets the best athletes apart. The integration of whole-body movement patterns in KLT support the development of the appropriate stability required to put that force to use!
While your local gym can be a great place to train your Kinetic Link Training exercises, the ability to perform the exercises with basic equipment like dumbbells and resistance bands means you aren't restricted to a place or time to train. A basic set of resistance bands can even be an easy addition to your luggage when travelling.
While the exercises can be easily taught and understood they can be scaled all the way from gentle, lightly-resisted general conditioning exercises all the way up to heavily-resisted, complex motor tasks involving plyometric (explosive) type muscle activity. Kinetic link training can be undertaken by almost anyone.
